THEME: Great ideas create new tools and unlimited opportunities

Mustard Bridge Foundation Uganda invites climate entrepreneurs to join Tech for a green energy hackathon to showcase their coding skills and promote creative solutions for saving the climate through climate entrepreneurship. This virtual hackathon will challenge the innovation and problem-solving skills of participants and inspire them creatively engage with others to form sustainable solutions for our planet.

The program is spread over a period of 3 weeks across different stages of the hackathon and the participants are expected to be available to work on the challenge with their teams during this duration as and when they progress through each stage.

 

REGISTRATION

Teams will be required to register to enter the hackathon. Please identify a team leader and register your team or register as an individual and we shall distribute you in teams accordingly. Multiple registrations will not be permitted. Please ensure there is only one registration per team.

Team leaders or an individual may use the Tech for green energy Hackathon form to register based on the team rules below. Please ensure you register your team in accordance with the guidelines mentioned or the team will not qualify for the event.

Registration Guidelines

  • To enter the hackathon, the team leader must complete the registration form and provide the required information about the members of the team or as an individual without a team and so we shall give you where to belong.
  • The Team Leader has to register on behalf of the team. All participants will be required to share their emails. Please submit secondary emails, in the event that we are unable to reach you on your primary email. You are required to keep yourself updated on all emails used to register.
  • Registrations will close on 30th June 2023 at 11:59 PM EAT
  • Any questions or inquiries regarding the hackathon should be directed to [email protected]
  • Please ensure there is only one registration per team or per person.
  • Please ensure teams are created with the above grouping guidelines in mind.
  • Teams may be mixed as long as deemed necessary.
  • In the event that your team is diluted due to the unavailability of your members and is no longer available to participate because of unforeseeable circumstances, you may opt for random selection in the form. This will allow our team to add you to a group that has availability.
  • Teams may opt to receive participants to their existing team if there happens to be a vacancy.

In the event that no groups have an availability, that person(s) will not continue.

RULES AND REGULATIONS

To participate in the hackathon:

People between age of 18 to 35 years must be in higher institutions, graduate or has coding knowledge during registration. Members may register as teams of 2-6 or as an individual whom we shall put in another team where there is a vacancy and all participants must be Ugandan nationals. Foreign national are not allowed to participate in this hackathon. Please only enroll for the hackathon with your national ID, email and whatsapp number for verification and communication and must be able to attend video conference and access to at least a computer per team.

Verifying eligibility:

Mustard Bridge Foundation reserves the right to verify your eligibility. You agree to provide us with any proof of eligibility as requested and your refusal or failure to timely provide such proof may result in the team’s disqualification from the hackathon.

Participation as a team:

  • Participation will be through teams of eligible individuals.
  • All team members must independently meet the eligibility requirements of the hackathon.
  • A member cannot be a member of more than one team.
  • Modification to a team’s composition or team details after registration/communicating acceptance to participate is not allowed.
  • Team members who attend at the beginning of the hackathon must participate throughout the hackathon period, where the team is shortlisted for the next round.
  • In the event that a team is unable to proceed to the next step post entrepreneurship training, the member may opt to join a team that has availability. This option will be made available during your registration. Please ensure to select the same.
  • Teams cannot change post-web design basic lessons.
  • Any deviation from the above will result in immediate disqualification of the entire team.
  • All participants are entitled to be from higher institutions of education, recent graduates or coders, and should be between 18-35years of age
  • The project must be original and created by the participants only
  • Use of open-source libraries is allowed but links to those sources must be added in the development post submission using the available link
  • As a hackathon is a competition, only friendly competitions will be allowed. Shaming other participants on their proposals, competitive talks e.g. you’re already defeated is strictly prohibited
  • Avoid the creation of projects with the aim of spreading hate and political desires on any social group

Code of conduct

  1. As a participant, give your grant permission and irrevocable right to the hackathon head team to interview you in the program and appearance on a video.
  2. Use your information for the purpose of user feedback, improvement of results, and sharing with sponsors
  3. Display and perform the recordings publicly in the whole country without restrictions to promote educational and commercial use
  4. Each participant is entitled to treat our staff, mentors, other participants, sponsors, and judges with the utmost respect for without them nothing would be possible.

 

Team leader and team name:

Each team must nominate one member as the team leader and may not be changed during the hackathon period.

  • The team leader is the primary point of contact for the team during the hackathon however each member must personally attend the entrepreneurship training and web design basic lessons.
  • Each group must decide on a name for their team. Your team name must be neutral and brief, without the use of offensive or vulgar language or violating the intellectual property rights of others. We reserve the right to request for a change of the team name at our sole discretion.
  • All communication will take place through the team leader.

All judging will be final following broad parameters unless we find evidence of cheating, manipulation, and plagiarism

FAQs

  1. How many people can be on the team?

A minimum of 2 members and a maximum of 6 members can be there in one team. If your team has fewer members then you are not eligible. We will help you form a team if you don’t have enough members

  1. Where can I find the schedule of the entire set of events after registration?

The schedule is available above! And we shall always update you on your emails and other means of communication conveniently.

  1. What do I need to have for the hackathon?

You will need a computer connected to Wifi, but also plenty of sleep, water, food, and snacks. Prior knowledge/experience with hackathons with a plus. If not, no issues – you can start now

  1. How much does the hackathon cost?

Hackers can participate for free!

  1. When is the Last Date to Register for the hackathon?
